about

JAMES: I remember writing this song and demoing it one rainy day in the old flat I used to live in in Finsbury Park. It became the opening track on Things We Lost, Things We Learned . I always liked the way it kicked in with some big harmonies but quite delicate instrumentation, which then just build up and up throughout the song as the drums come in. Lee’s harmonica part really added a nice bluesy vibe, I thought.

lyrics

Lonely I did lie
And wait for you tonight
Hold your body close
Rest my weary bones

Bound about my hands
While life laughs at my plans
I can find a way if I can see your face

If nobody waits for tomorrow
And everyone lives for today
Time as it flows in my hollow bones
She takes me all the way

Down upon my knees
Your light it shines on me
Nevermore alone
Come and take me home

Burning in my heart
And you ignite the spark
Aching all the time
To feel your lips on mine

Standing at the gate
The hour drawing late
My love I do implore
No waiting anymore

If nobody waits for tomorrow
And everyone lives for today
Time as it flows in my hollow bones
You take me all the way
